Writer's Review - The Suzuki SX4

The SX4 is a five-door hatchback with the option of 4-wheel drive. The car comes with a choice of two body styles, the first one is chunky and looks like an off-roader and the second is sleeker and has a more passenger car appearance.

The car’s tall roofline provides good passenger space. Head and legroom are good all-round. The car’s dash area looks good and has a decent feel, not too cheap.

There are two spec levels the GL and the GLX. The 4Grip GLX model is similarly equipped but receives four-wheel drive capabilities. All spec levels come well equipped.

There are two engine choices available in the UK, the 1.6-litre petrol engine that provides 106bhp and a 1.9-litre diesel engine that is provided by Fiat. The diesel option offers 118bhp. The SX4 can be ordered with two or four wheel drive with either engine.

Even when fitted with four-wheel drive the SX4 is not a true off-roader and can only perform limited off-road duties. It wasn’t designed to take a lot of abuse and can’t handle very rough terrain. The car’s ride height is also too low to allow it to perform true off-roading activities.

Practicality

The SX4 is affordably priced and offers low insurance ratings. The car provides good fuel economy especially in diesel form. The car should prove to be reliable and maintenance should be routine.

The SX4 provides excellent cabin space for front and rear passengers. Head and legroom is good all-round. The car’s boot is a good size and can hold most packages.

The car’s controls and dials are attractively laid out. Everything is straightforward and functional. The switchgear has a good feel and seems to be of decent quality. The controls are easy to find and everything seems to do what it’s supposed to.

The cabin is a very comfortable place to be. The seats are supportive and comfortable even on longer journeys. The car’s cabin successfully minimizes outside noise. Road and engine noise are present but not unbearable.

The SX4 is highly accessible. The car is not so high that passengers must climb in like most true 4X4s. Passengers can slide into the car’s seats and easily gain access. Egress is also simple and shouldn’t pose any problems.
Parking the SX4 is easy enough. The car handles well and provides good all-round visibility. The car’s large side mirrors help out a lot when reverse parking, but for the most part parking should not be problematic.

Life Style

The Suzuki SX4 can be a fun car to drive. It was not designed for speed, but it does deliver a comfortable ride and handles well. The SX4 is an easy car to drive.

This would make a good family vehicle. There is plenty of cabin space for passengers to get comfortable and the four-wheel drive option adds extra practicality and safety to the vehicle. Families will have adequate boot space to tote around all their goodies and the interior should hold up well.

This is an unlikely first car. Even though the SX4 is easy enough to drive, it isn’t likely to appeal to most first time car buyers. It is relatively inexpensive and provides low insurance but lacks the style that younger buyers are attracted to.

Suzuki has made improvements recently to the quality of their vehicles. The Suzuki SX4 seems to be well-built and boasts a decent quality of interior materials. The firm is known for creating bargain basement cars but the SX4 doesn’t feel bargain basement.

Security and Safety

The SX4 is an unlikely target for car thieves. The car’s basic security features include remote central locking. Some buyers may want to increase security levels by adding an alarm or a visual deterrent.

The car’s safety features include driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags. It scored four out of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test, and the car also comes with ISOFIX child seat mountings.

The Finishing Touches

The car’s standard audio system includes a radio/CD player. The systems basic functions are duplicated on the car’s steering-wheel for the driver’s convenience. The unit boasts good sound quality.

The car also comes with front electric windows, electric door mirrors, air-conditioning, tinted glass, on-board computer, a cigarette lighter and an extra accessory socket.

Summary

The Suzuki SX4 is an attractive and practical car. The car is reasonably priced and comes with option of four-wheel drive. The car’s cabin is comfortable and the car delivers a safe and comfortable ride.

How To Sell

The amount you will get from selling your SX4 will depend heavily upon the number of miles on the clock. If it has covered less than 40,000 then you should get a good deal, with most models selling for £4,000 - £5,000 or more, providing that they are no more than 6 years old.
